Combined iris retractor and lens expressor.

چکیده
To achieve upward retraction of the iris when applying forceps to the upper part of the lens capsule for intracapsular cataract extraction Verhoeff used a lip on one blade of the forceps. The instrument shown in Fig. 1 so retracts the iris that a better view is obtained of the upper part of the lens capsule for application of Arruga's capsule forceps than is possible when using Verhoeff's lipped forceps; moreover, this instrument gives some protection to the iris as well as exposing a fair area of the capsule when a cryoextractor is used.

Flexible iris retractors for management of zonular dialysis during planned phacoemulsification.
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to determine the use of flexible iris retractors in four patients with zonular dialysis occurring during cataract surgery. METHODS We describe the use of flexible iris retractors to stretch and fixate the capsulorhexis over the zonular dehiscence sector for patients with traumatic zonular disruption occurring during phacoemulsification, which stabilizes th...
متن کاملPatwardhan's cross-action iris retractor with double hook.
THIS instrument was originally designed in 1953 for facilitating the introduction of an acrylic lens implant after simple intracapsular cataract extraction. It is fairly easy to introduce the lower pole of the lenticulus behind the iris at 6 o'clock, but the iris has to be lifted up with an iris hook at 12 o'clock, so that the upper pole of the lenticulus can be placed behind it. The single iri...
متن کاملIris retractor for use with cryoextractors.
CRYOEXTRACTION has been established as a safe, indeed the safest, method of removing the cataractous lens. Numerous instruments have been designed for this purpose. Certain problems tend to present during this operation, in spite of careful attention to the preparation: (a) Even when the pupil is widely dilated at the start of the operation, it tends to become smaller during the opening of the ...
متن کاملSafety and efficacy of phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation through a small pupil using minimal iris manipulation
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to compare the results of phacoemulsification through a small pupil using minimal iris manipulation versus phacoemulsification through a well-dilated pupil. METHODS This prospective randomized control (comparative) study comprised 78 patients (group I) with a maximally dilated pupil size of ≤4.00 mm and 45 patients (group II) with dilated pupil size of ≥7.00 ...
متن کاملSurgical repair of Descemet's membrane detachment.
The aim of the study was to demonstrate a successful repair of Descemet membrane detachment (DMD). A 73-year-old woman with pseudoexfoliative glaucoma underwent phacoemulsification with flexible posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. Because of inadequate pupillary dilatation flexible iris retractors were used. Four days after cataract surgery, a large DMD was recognized. One day late...
